Why Charlottesville is the Perfect Wedding Venue?!

Afton House
by MollyM

We were just named by Wine Enthusiast as the Wine Region of the Year . This means it's not only a beautiful place to drink wine and grow grapes, but also an amazing place to host your event of a lifetime....a wedding! The winemakers and estate owners of Charlottesville not only take pride in their wine but in their physical spaces too. Some of our favorite places for getting married are our very own local wineries and cideries.

Beaming with historical beauty and gorgeous aesthetic taste, we can't tell you all the reasons to make this a wedding destination, but we will try to name a few! Check out these beautiful Charlottesville wedding venues to host your special day.

North Garden

Pippin Hill Farm

Pippin Hill was founded in in 2010 by premier wedding planner, Lynn Easton of Easton Events. The hope of this venue was to bring high end weddings to Charlottesville and host them in a world class venue with design rooted in classic French architecture and farm to table food. The culinary experience and award winning wines have attracted brides and grooms from all arond the world. Located in the North Garden area of Charlottesville, Guesthouses provides several places for guests to stay. A cute apartment in the city or in the country near Pippin! The beauty of Pippin Hill is that it is perfect in all of Virginia's sesons for your main event.

Potter's Cider

This gorgeous cidery is "across the street" from Pippin. That's Charlottesville talk for just down the road! The cidery is housed in an old church building that was redesigned to get back to the roots of Jefferson's vision of Charlottesville as an apple destination. Jefferson tried to grow grapes a number of times here and to no avail, but the apple has stood the test of time....and we've fixed the grape issue!

Mount Ida Farm

Mount Ida Farm is located just south of Charlottesville in the midst of the rolling hills of the Blue Ridge. If you want to be able to curate your own wine and cidery, going with a farm and historic building is definitley the best. They specialize in more intimate weddings, private events and rehearsal diners with a maximum capacity due to spacing. The cozy barn vibe with floor to ceiling glass doors looking out over the mountains is just breathtaking!

Keswick

Keswick Hall

This gorgeous hotel and resort, established in 1912, underwent an extensive renovation and reopened in 2020 with just draw dropping details. From the beautiful black and white marble hallway to the award winning Marigold restaurant by Jean-Georges off the stunning terrace, you will be transported to the English countryside. This area of Charlottesville is on the cusp of the Piedmont region so instead of the mountainsque views, you get that beautiful English Cotswold rolling hills view.

Merrie Mill Vineyards

Merrie Mill is one of our new favorites founded in 2020 by a young couple. The husband hails from England and the wife from Memphis. With their mix of southern Brit charm and adoring children, they've turned the winery into a whimsical wonderland. The couple also recently purchased the local favorite grocery store, Feast, which we say is a big win in our books. Merrie Mill's menu has grown to include Feast catering options. We just love their tagline "a world of wine and wonderment."

Castle Hill Cidery

Castle Hill cidery was birthed out of the desire to retreat back to Jefferson's love of apples and the harvest that it produces. Also, the barn was built to accomodate large weddings...one of the only in town. This has been a great source of income for the cidery and a welcome option for UVA alums and others who wish to not pay for the venue and then a tent! It is truly an unforgettable location.

Clifton Inn

Clifton Inn is just minutes from Downtown and yet nestled up on a rolling hill. Guests can enjoy a complete experience with an amazing culinary team yet also bring in their own food, catering and tents! The old estate turned inn has a cozy Virginia vibe with a modern twist. It was purchased about ten years ago and underwent a full renvation top to bottom. A great option for those that do no want to make their guests travel out to further wineries and venues. It is less than five minutes from town!

Crozet & Afton

King Family Vineyard

King Family is one of our tride and true favorite venues (here) for all things polo to wine to weddings! The event space sits in the valley of the Blue Ridge on a wide expansive lot. Guests are able to have their own catering companies and work with the charming King family. We can't say enough. Several of our Guesthouses locations are located within a few minutes drive (i.e. Piedmont Suites in Downtown Crozet and Ramsay Cottage right behind King)

Veritas Vineyard

On the list of our favorite wineries, Veritas, sits at the foothills of Afton, Virginia and is a spectacular place to host your wedding! The large tasting room that effortlessly flows into their even bigger main event space makes it a perfect location for weddings that are more in the 200-500 range! The tasting room is a smaller event space that large weddings have used for rehearsal dinners. It's large enough to fit up to 100 plus people but the sound and acoustic make it feel more like an intimate gathering.

Downtown Charlottesville

Quirk Hotel

This colorfully pink l hotel and venue located on West Main Street has turned this once dilapidated area of Charlottesville into a bustling place from dawn until night! From Richmond, Virginia, the founders wanted the hotel to be a place of wonder, awe and cultural charm! The rooftop bar and glass restaurant is a great location for your wedding reception or  after party. The yellow cheery chairs of the Pink Grouse restaurant is a large enough space to host your rehearsal dinner or boutique wedding. Don't forget to meander through the artist gallery with a glass of champagne.

Bradbury Downtown

A group of investors turned the old Virginia National Bank building into a grand location for your evening event. Located in the heart of the Downtown Mall, the gorgeous corinthian columns and marble foyer are just draw dropping. The multiple levels and various event spaces allows you to be able to have multiple options depending on the size of your wedding

Common House

Common House is a place of inspiration and artistic delight. Founded on the principles that communities are brought together through innovation and collaboration, the location is a gathering house for investors, designers, artists and Mahjong loving friend. The multiple levels offer the ability to rent a room to the entire space. We've heard of amazing winter parties on the main level with the warm fireplace to gorgeous summer parties thrown on the rooftop deck!
